Underworld x Ki/Ki – Arp12
Underworld have released “Arp12”, their first new music since the 2024 album Strawberry Hotel, in collaboration with Dutch techno-trance artist KI/KI. It debuted alongside a livestream from EDC Las Vegas, which sets the tone: this is a track built for large stages and festival fields, not headphones.
At 145bpm, it runs on hard techno drums, driving synth melodies and a trance-referencing bassline that locks in early and doesn’t let go. The structure is deliberately functional, building in layers, dropping back around the two-minute mark, then reassembling at full force. You can hear both artists clearly: Underworld’s atmospheric weight in the pads and phrasing, KI/KI’s high-speed contemporary rave energy in the kick and momentum. It’s a clean handshake between two distinct approaches and it works because neither side overplays it.
KI/KI has been one of the most talked-about names in European techno-trance for a while now, and this is her first collaboration with the band. Both artists are playing Pukkelpop this August on consecutive nights, which makes a joint appearance feel inevitable. Until then, Underworld have a packed run of international dates through to October.
Thirty years on from Dubnobasswithmyheadman and they’re still finding collaborators who push the sound forward rather than just rubber-stamp the legacy.
